INTRODUCTION TO PEN ON PAPER (POP) EXAM

POP is an acronym for *Pen On Paper.* Pen On Paper exam is a type of exam in which students j are usually asked questions and expected to put down their answers according to their level of comprehension. Answers are to be written legibly using either blue or black biro while diagrams should be drawn neatly with pencil. Calculator is permitted into the exam hall but ensure you don't store sensitive contents on it in case of exam malpractice.

POP exam is very interesting but, indeed, you would need to develop the ability to understand whatever material you have read in preparation for the exam and note that all answers written in your answer booklet must be logical and convince the marker.

In NOUN, POP exam exam is done mostly in 300 level upward. It is in contrast to e-exam whereby you use desktop computer and input devices like mouse and keyboard to enter your answers into the system.

As a matter of fact, there is no jokes in POP exam because there is no fill-in-the gap or OBJ questions as in e-exam. The answers to POP questions should be well composed with legible handwriting and do not write on both sides of the answer booklet as instructed.

In an undergraduate (students in 300 and 400 level) POP exam, you will find at least 4 questions contained for a course. Then out of the 4 questions, most of the time question number 1 carries the highest mark and it is compulsory to do it. Failure to answer question number 1 means the student has lost huge marks already. For example, question 1 may carry 30 marks while question 2, 3, 4 and 5 carry 20 marks each.

Furthermore, POP exam is the type of exam whereby you need knowledge, wisdom and understanding in order to be able to write down very meaningful and factual answers in response to the exam questions because your exam booklet (script) would be marked by an external facilitator or marker so there is no way you can bribe a marker in NOUN.

Frankly, most of the students used to find POP exam very difficult for some reasons which include the following:

1. Inadequate preparation for the exam

2. Lack of adequate study materials e.g exam summary, course materials, and recommended textbooks

3. Lack of POP exam past questions for at least 4 different semesters to serve as "eye opener"

4. Lack of external facilitation e.g tutorial centers

5. Inability to seek academic advice from experts and students who are ahead of you in the same department

6. Lack of seriousness and procrastination

7. Late reading (especially for students above the age of 40 or office workers)

8. Low motivation and no target goals

Finally, as depicted by the title of this article, this is just an introductory aspect of POP exam. You would be acquainted with more facts and tips to perform well in your next POP exam when you  come to our center.

Thank you so much for reading.
